Things to Do

Where should we eat and drink?

It's hard to find a bad restaurant in Florence, but here are some of our favorites:

• 4Leoni (Nicole's fave restaurant in all of Florence! Pro tip, order the pear ravioli)
• La Giostra (A very popular restaurant, must get reservations well in advance)
• Gusta Pizza (Nicole's fave pizza spot from her college days)
• il Paiolo (great to just walk in without a reservation)
• Trattoria Dall'Oste (the #43 best steakhouse in the world)
• Pino's or Ino Panino (all'antico vinaio is overrated)
• Gelateria di Neri (the best gelato, in our opinion)
• Picteau Bistrot (be sure to get a table outside)
• Le Volpi e l'Uva (our favorite wine bar)
• Giacosa (where the negroni was supposedly born)

How should we spend our free time?

Whether you want to site see, shop till you drop or take a day trip - Florence has it all! Here are some of our recommendations:

• Florence is known for it's leather. Tour the main leather markets at San Lorenzo or Mercato Nuovo, but we recommend buying your leather from Scuola del Cuoio.

• Make sure to rub the wild boar's nose for good luck at Mercato Nuovo, and throw a coin into his mouth to ensure you return to Florence!

• There's a ton of shopping to do in Florence whether it's name brands you know and love, or want to find Italian exclusives. If you want to buy luxury goods - don't forget to ask for the VAT back!

• Florence is full of history! From going to the Academia to see the David, the Uffizi to see the art, exploring the Medici's Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace, or seeing how the Duomo was built at the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo — you can't go wrong. Most let you buy tickets the day of too. Keep in mind though the Academia and Uffizi Galleries are extremely busy and will have lines.

• Explore the street art! We've found some of our favorite artwork on the street. There's a lot of artists around the Uffizi and the Duomo. Just make sure it's authentic - there will be scammers!

• If you've never been to Florence, it's worth climbing the duomo and/or the bell tower. Just keep in mind, it's a ton of steps to the top!

• Head up to Piazzale Michaelangelo at sunset - you won't regret it!

• Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, Parma, Modena and Bologna are all quick trips from Florence - only about an hour or two away. If you have extra time to spare, it's worth exploring these amazing towns!
